Judy,

This was not quite the announcement that was expected
this morning as far as I can tell. Some analysts were
expecting NN to divest themselves of some of the
former UB Networks assets to COMS.

The announcement is consistent with what NN has said
in the past though, that the enterprise space is an
integral part of their long term strategy. It does
mean that in short term the bleeding from this division
will continue. The earnings release should tell us if
they have been able to reverse some of the bleeding
this quarter. The possible weakness in frame relay sales
should keep them on the defensive too.

Harry

Judy,

Some news on NN. From the street . com

Cisco, the networking industry leader, won a "major order" for its StrataCom BPX asynchronous transfer mode, or ATM, switches from US West Communications (USW:NYSE), according to a morning report from UBS Securities. The news in the UBS report has not been widely disseminated.
In winning the contract, Cisco knocked out Newbridge Networks (NN:NYSE), the "incumbent" at US West.
