ATI DVD cards....This one has a hardware solution. Doesn't look cost competitive... atitech.ca ATI-DVDT ATI-DVD is a cost-effective, high-quality OEM solution for the emerging DVD-PC market. This board enables a studio-quality audio and visual experience on a PC. MPEG-2 data streams up to 720x480 and 60 fields per second can be decoded, which is a 4x improvement over MPEG-1 quality. The decoded Dolby Digital AC-3 sound quality is superior to most home stereo systems. The ATI-DVD board off-loads the CPU from decode functions and guarantees that no frame drops or other quality compromises occur. It also ensures perfect synchronization of audio and video. Compressed data rates up to 15 Mb/s can be decoded without quality degradation. The ATI Multimedia Channel (AMC) is used to move decompressed video into the scaler and overlay engine on ATI graphics chips. ATI's 3D RAGE II+ DVD and other AMC enabled graphics chips will perform filtered scaling and windowing of video and graphics. Through ATI's ImpacTV2 chip, the final video can be displayed on a television and/or monitor. All software drivers and a player application are provided that make all DVD features easy to use. Included is a Navigator that allows the user to change languages, viewing angle and parental controls. MPEG-2/AC-3 Decoder Board Decodes DVD streams to produce broadcast-quality MPEG-2 video Decodes AC-3 or MPEG-2 audio to produce stereo-quality sound Direct input to ATI Multimedia Channel (AMC) on ATI graphics chips provides high-quality video scaling and overlay with low CPU and PCI bus utilization Low-cost, PCI 2.1 compliant add-in board Stereo audio input and output jacks PAL/NTSC video output Specifications: MPEG-2 video, MPEG-2 layer 2 audio, and AC-3 audio decode for file level or PC application playback IBM MPEG-2 chip Zoran AC-3 chip AMC Interface PCI 2.1 compliant 2MB DRAM Sustained MPEG-2 compressed data rate up to 15 Mb/s MPEG-2 pan scan support for 16x9 or 4x3 aspect ratio Accepts PCI compressed data streams from DVD-drive, hard drive or DBS card MPEG-1 streams and applications including Video CD 2.0, Open MPEG, and MCI Interactive DVD Player application providing access to all supported functions Meets Microsoft PC97 specification including DVD playback requirements as applied to a Win95 Basic PC Full frame rate (24-30fps) video displayed at a minimum of television quality regardless of scaling Output to RGB monitor in an arbitrarily scaled window up to full screen Support for NTSC/PAL output of video signal High quality synchronized 2-channel audio output Support control from IR remote control 3D Audio
