FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 1998--Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) announced today that it has signed a patent cross-license agreement with S3 Incorporated (NASDAQ:SIII). Under the agreement, Cirrus Logic will grant a cross-license of all of its 2D and 3D graphics and video patents to S3 and will obtain a cross-license of all of S3's technology patents. The agreement also calls for the sale by Cirrus Logic of certain undisclosed graphics patents to S3, and Cirrus Logic will retain access to those patents under the cross-license agreement. The S3 agreement is subject to government review under the Hart Scott Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976. In a separate transaction, <<< Cirrus Logic also signed a patent cross-license agreement with another party. >>> As a result of the two transactions, Cirrus Logic expects to receive cash payments totaling $60 million during the quarter ended March, 1998. No further terms of the agreements were disclosed.
