It's quite obvious--and has been for sometime--that Compaq desires a higher degree of vertical integration of products, a broader product mix, and (last but not the least) freedom from Intel's grip on microprocessors.

Recent acquisitions of Tandem, Microcom and Dec are all in keeping with these goals.

My 2 cents.

Absolutely! This in MHO is what this is all about. Granted there is the sevice business etc. But there is so much more than meets the eye! Let me just say that intc is a supplier and a MAJOR competitor and Cpq has been trying to stabilize this situation and DEC has been a key to this! FINALLY!!!
