Suncor Energy (SU-T) slashes dividend 55%

Suncor Energy is taking a hatchet to its dividend as part of a strategy for shielding its balance sheet from the effects of weak oil prices and COVID-19 fallout. The quarterly dividend is being reduced approximately 55 per cent to 21 cents per share; Suncor also said it’s suspending buybacks and shaving another $400 million from its capital spending budget. Is that enough to help it manage turmoil that sent the Canadian energy giant to a $3.5-billion loss in the first quarter?
