<<(1) Why do people in this country (usa) say the two can not exist together if it is well documented that they co-exist in South Africa?>>

The are numerous examples of Au and Pt occuring together. That's what so weird, so many say its impossible, but examples are peppered through the literature. There was small deposit north of FL, in Nevada, called the Boss Mine. Its in a USGS publication. Very high (VERY HIGH) grades of both Pt and Au in vein systems. I even have a reference of Au and Pt occuring in a coal deposit in British Coloumbia, Canada. Much like FL, the metals in the coal occured over millions of years - water leached the metals from another location and deposited in the coal bed.

<<(2) what conditions are need for PT to be present in an area?>>

You need some sort of ultramafic rock, that in general terms means it's close in composition to the earths interior. Most of the targets in the SW USA appear to be related to some linear feature. IPM, MXAM, GPGI, USPS, NAXOS, CHIP and a few more private ones align for some reason. Why?
