Don't know if this has been posted already, but "The Microprocessor Report" has a nice editorial on the state of the 3D graphics market along with a little blurb endorsing 3DFX's strategy at:

Well summarized fivebagger !

Except for the price decline in advance of announcement,
I'd read the afternoon uptick as short-covering.

S3 just announced 3 cents vs expectation of 2 cents:

"S3 Inc. (SIII): The electronics-components company reported fourth-quarter earnings of 3 cents a diluted share, beating the 2- cent average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by IBES. S3 fell 1/16 to 5."

Its a stretch, but you could call that a 33% earnings surprise.

Buying the dips, selling the peaks, got av cost down to $14.25.

If it drops Wednesday (Who knows what the "whisper number" is,
I'm loading up ! Their business going forward looks extreme.
