Authoritarians believe in the bad people theory because they project their own crooked personality onto all people.

Having a hotel owner, whose unsold rooms rot into zero value every single night, is not the guy to be managing a pandemic or overseeing a $2 trillion Dollar aid program without oversight.

It's painfully obvious.

I think the human species is a mixture of good and bad. But they lean toward being bad, as history shows us. Humans can BECOME good through education.

History is very clear, that as humans become educated they have a tendency to become more good. And I think it is because they learn to understand what is good and bad. That is not something people know instinctively.

It is easy to simply look at human behavior over the last 3,000 years for which we have written history to see how barbaric people were, really until only about 100 years ago.

Then with the advent of knowledge from books, and schools, beginning about 500 years ago when Gutenberg invented the printing press and millions of books were again produced; and the age of enlightenment about 200 years later, and finally capped by categorical public education around a 100 years ago, the human species finally achieved modern day civilization.

Modern civilization: Awareness of civil rights, and the evils of racism, sexism, homophobia, caste systems and the importance of the rule of law and democracy.

I think it should be clear to us.
The human species is divided into two groups:
Those who can see that Donald Trump is a lunatic and monster destroying the country, and those who cannot!

i have another perspective on the polarity that divides us and it explains the divide you're
talking about too. "The human species is divided into two groups":

group 1) those who think all people are basically good, decent and have a working conscience
that will guide them toward good behavior.

AND...

group 2) those who think we're all sinners and NEED some outside authority to keep us in line
or we'll steal, cheat, lie and kill.

it's trust in the nature of man vs. distrust in the nature of man. (in this case "man" means both
men and women - but i trust you knew that. <wink>)

that makes ALL the difference in the way we structure our laws and our society... and even the
way we run our businesses.

we're in group one. :-)

it's time for the pendulum to swing back over to the optimists... the helpers... the people lovers.
i see a lot of it happening out there. it hurts too much not to.

i'm glad you're in a better mood today. maybe you had the cranky vibes like i did? maybe you
caught them from me. sorry. there's a LOT of it spinning around in the atmosphere... especially on
TV and social media.
