I have to say that I do not agree with what you said. I agree with what Reagan said. The government is the problem here. The true statistics do not justify the wholesale shutting down of our economy like they have done. The poverty that will come from the Greatest Depression that our government has created as a result of the mass hysteria inflamed by the lame stream media and the liberals on the internet will cause far more misery, suffering, and death than the virus itself.

The facts show that the majority of people who get the virus don't show symptoms or show only mild symptoms. 99% of the people who die from the virus have underlying ailments that compromise their immune system and make them susceptible to death by pneumonia. The elderly are also at risk. The numbers we see being reported are a classic case of selection bias, where only those who have serious symptoms are getting tested. In a true randomized sample, we would find the mortality rate to be vanishingly small and most probably similar to the seasonal flu.

The massive economic destruction that the governments across the world have foisted on all of us is just not worth it. Everyone is ignoring the simple fact that poverty kills with a certainty and in far greater numbers than COVID ever will.

I think there is a myth propagated by the liberals in this country and elsewhere that the government should make us safe and protect us from all risk. Those of us old enough to recognize that thought, understand that it is one of the central tenants of Communism and Socialism. But here's a more adult way of thinking for you. Life is full of risk. A life worth living means taking risk and achieving the rewards that come from that. Even Benjamin Franklin understood these tradeoffs when he famously said something like, "He who would trade freedom for a little security, deserves neither."

So yes, Reagan was right when he said, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
