4/17/2020 Contest update (Contest YTD is calculated from 1/3/2020 close.) Another week of counterintuitive Covid-19 stock gains with biotechs being especially popular. In fact, with a little help from GILD and its Covid-19 drug, the NBI was able to move into the green for the year. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -11.60% YTD (vs. down -17.40% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 5.36% YTD (vs. down -3.68% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -1.98% YTD (vs. down –10.63% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was down -4.11% YTD (vs. down -9.61% YTD a week ago). Contest leader JBOG’s portfolio continues to soar higher and is now up 62.25% YTD. FILO’s portfolio, up 41.11% YTD held on to second place and IPOL’s portfolio, up 26.34% YTD, moved into third place. At Friday's close, 14 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 11 now beating the NBI and 15 still beating the SPSIBI. The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD loss of -0.69% and a median YTD loss of -10.38%. Below is the Top Ten list.
