Politics is generating a lot of noise... Which doesn't mean there isn't an ability to observe FACTS as the events generating them occur... ? Did the Chinese conduct a fire drill in Wuhan to empty the streets there... as a clever trick to make you think the virus kills people... when it doesn't ? People who adopt your brand of skepticism... if allowed to lead... generate outcomes like Italy, Spain... and New York... that don't have to happen. Why are there more people dying in New York than in Seattle ? That we've adopted the most draconian measures to counter this bug... since... ever... and it STILL kills as many people as it does ? "Improbable at best"... is pure ignorance talking... that of the "wishful thinking" normalcy bias type... that refuses to accept facts presented incontrovertibly... because doing so would be too disturbing ? Believing it's a scam... means your risk is lower ? The virus is no longer an unknown. It's 4 times more contagious than the flu... and it kills 2% of the population... concentrated on "older and more vulnerable"... which is true even as now when everyone has ICU level care available... and without it... 14% is what you get. "Flatten the curve"... prevents exceeding ICU capacity... which is what keeps damage done down in the 2% range. That's just the facts in the math... In New York... and a few other places... the rates are trending a bit higher... where you see "ICU level care" being arranged to be provided... by hospital staff who aren't actually ICU qualified nurses and docs... ?? Then, suddenly, the ventilators don't work... and are more damaging to the patients than the virus is... FWIW, that "improbable at best" view is the same error in ignorance Trump adopted, at first... his own brand of skepticism fortunately still not stopping him from closing down travel from China "just in case" ? Trump seemed to be thinking it was "improbable" this was a killer bug... and far more likely it was just a trick being concocted by China with their American friends who are his political opponents... using it to induce him into making career ending errors... But, whatever its origins... the virus doesn't care about motives... it just is what it is ? The problem with Trumps approach ? It errs in assuming too much good faith by others... believing "they" would do the dirty trick to hurt him... but believing they wouldn't ever actually release a real bug that kills people... in order to get their desired outcome ? People are MOSTLY good... but a good number of them are truly evil bastards... The trick is sorting out which are which... since they're all obviously lying to you ?
