If you've ever been poor, living paycheck to paycheck, then you'd be far more reluctant to thrust 50 million people into joblessness and poverty.

I don't mean to be flippant, but I do want to point out that there is another side to this equation that everyone seems to be ignoring. Poverty kills in massive numbers, and yet, we ignore that. But when there is a clear and present danger of death to the 1% in this country, then there is no limit to the extremes of action including massive monetary and fiscal stimulus and curtailment of freedoms to get the job done. We'll save the few in the short run by killing the many through poverty in the long run. Why is this acceptable?

Yes, COVID is terrible, but why is it acceptable to allow people to die of car accidents every day? Maybe we should make driving illegal as well, since car accidents kill far more people than the worst projection of COVID ever could?

You see, this is not so cut and dried. We ignore the consequences of this economic armageddon through our short term thinking.
