David:

Excellent find, excellent paper. You "surfers" never cease to
amaze me with some of the things that you find. A must read for
all of the people here. Thanks!

David, some very interesting things to also consider.

I have been working on my own models and in talking to several people close to the action here are some truly astounding facts that weren't covered in that article. Or should I say weren't emphasized?

As an Internet Telephony company the cost of placing the call is the least expensive aspect. Even when considering origination fees and terminations fees.

There are two ways to presently buy bulk wholesale LD minutes. Either buy time at rates as low as 1.5 cents per minute or 7 cents per call irregardless of time (based on average call being 5 minutes).

The most expensive portion of any LD call over the internet will be the administration of billing.

This leads to the following:

A second consideration. The major RBOC's and LD carriers (ATT, WCOM, LCI,etc) are in a enviable position. As they provide termination fees
and or billing services, they also are able monitor the usage and traffic patterns to see who is really making headway. This in turn allows them to be highly selective and efficient when making acquistions.

Does this shed any light on the importance of co-location? And who is on WCOM's screen first? Speculation, yeah, but consider the above then consider what happens if Franklin comes out of the chute smokin.

As Bugsy used to say "Hey Doc, get the picture?"

RB

Has anyone heard AT&T's announcement on Monday the 27th? They are restructuring and laying off many people.

Guess what else they announced along with that?

Right . . . entry into the internet telephone business. The elephants are coming. I heard this on NBR this evening so I don't have it in writing. I'm sure someone else will know what I heard and explain it in more detail.

HD, nice post. I'll add that to the FTEL website at valuespec.com.
