Here's a post I just sent to another person on this thread. It has deaths from other causes that we never shut the economy down for and that we do not legislate against. Why the hysteria over something that causes less death? ----- Annual deaths by various reasons in the US (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm): * car accidents = 38,000 - should we ban cars and driving? * smoking deaths = 480,000 - should we ban smoking? * deaths from heart disease = 647,000 - should we legislate how many calories you eat each day? * deaths from diabetes = 83,000 - should we legislate how much sugar you take in each day? * flu and pneumonia = 55,000 - wow...this is higher than COVID, but we've never shut down our economy for the flu * suicide = 47,000 - should we lock everyone up in straight jackets so they can't kill themselves? BUT, BUT, BUT COVID: * COVID deaths so far = 25,000 - liberals and conservatives alike, both say SHUT THE ECONOMY DOWN, IT'S ARMAGEDDON...Why you might ask yourself? Because it impacts the 1% and they will lift heaven and earth to ensure the 1% aren't impacted. But poor people? Who cares. That is the cold truth. To which I say, get a grip and get a perspective. We need calm and rational minds to lead our country. Destroying our economy will thrust 50 million people into unemployment and poverty in the next few weeks. These people are far more likely to die of poverty related ailments. Where is your virtue signaling for these people? Why are you so callous when it comes to the millions of lives you are ruining with this shutdown? POVERTY KILLS: * deaths associated with poverty = 133,000 (https://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/05/health/05social.html) - shutting down our economy KILLS people too!
