Brad,

There are many times when taking conversation offline is more appropriate than posting.

How about creating a "Mailbox" ON SI so people can send offline messages. This way, people do not have to reveal their email address and potentially a meaningful domain name. An added benefit would be that the mailboxes would be under your control and abuse of them could be stopped. (Only members could post mail to the mailboxes, I presume.)

Personally I prefer real names, but nicknames are a necessary evil to
protect against unwanted publicity. For example, many employees at
tech companies use aliases so that their association with SI does not
jeapardize their jobs.

In truth, Brad, that is why I use an alias. I have no intention
of posting anything that is unethical, but I prefer to be the
judge of that. I'm not willing to delegate that to corporate
thought control weenies.

But I've also come to realize there's a much stronger reason
for anonymity here (though it never occurred to me before joining
SI). That is, there are many, many, many, ...., many informative
posts in which folks share their intellectual brain children
(their methods, their successes, their failures, there objectives,
etc, etc), which, if they were forced to do it without anonymity
we would not hear. Why? Because it involves disclosing
financial details that you don't want noised around in public.

All due respect for SI, but suppose (hypothetically) I let on
that I trade an account in 7 figures, and a lurker with my
real name and address kidnaps my kid? True, maybe I'm lying,
but beware anybody! I can lie under my real name too.

Think about this.

Best regards. What a wonderful job you're doing!
