The US traditionally sets a model for other countries during global crises and uses its resources to assist them, but that has not been the case during the coronavirus pandemic."Trump's ineptitude is exposed, but more than that, the US is not there to help others. We are not a global power in this pandemic, and people will remember that," Cynthia Schneider, who was the US ambassador to the Netherlands from 1998 to 2001, told Insider.Governors in the US have had to handle acquiring crucial medical supplies on their own. After Trump rejected New York's request for more ventilators, the state received 1,000 ventilators from China — a massive influx of critical aid that's more typical of the US response to disasters.

Two weeks ago, I mentioned that I'd been moved by a news story to urge SI posters to donate to food banks in these tough times. Naturally, I related that I'd already done so myself. And you;re still pissed about that two weeks later. I'll bet you had to purge again, didn't you?.

You must be really pissed at Trump's insistence that relief checks go out with his personal signature, right?

Forbes and Huffington Post both have stories out that say the relief checks will be delayed for days to get Trump's signature on them, (these will be the first IRS checks ever to bear the President's signature) but the important thing is Trump gets recognition and praise.

At least, unlike Trump, I gave my own money and I even pay taxes. And I've gotten you to read the Bible. So I feel pretty good. Thanks. Don't forget the food banks.

Trump, Jan. 24: "China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency."

Trump, today: The WHO "defended the actions of the Chinese government, even praising its so-called transparency."
