But you said that NYC's ICU beds were always at capacity every flu season.

If Italy had such a chronic shortage of ICU beds, how come they weren't overwhelmed until now, especially with their elderly population?

Really, TWY, you need to keep a more consistent argument.

....see if you can follow this....

NYC area has enough ICU beds for a SEVERE flu season with a comfortable but limited amount of overcapacity........then along comes corona with 2X to 4X the mortality rate.................NYC hospitals are extended to their limit and add capacity as quickly as possible...........over doubling their ICU capacity in record time. (Cuomo actually ordered the hospitals to do so)........they weather the storm and now all the temp hospitals (Javitts Center / hospital ship/ etc.) are NOT needed.........................Italy has far fewer ICU beds per capita and are overwhelmed by the new virus which is more problematic for their much older population............Italy is unable to mobilize their hospital system to respond in time. Who knows the level of care older Italians get even in a normal flu season? I wouldn't want to be one to find out.....they do have a nationalized health plan...........perhaps Taro can comment

Uh oh, time to put me back on Ignore ..I

....well you got one right.....I finally have come to realize, it simply is not worth the time to debate any one on these boards
