I have many Republican and Democrat friends. But I'm of a different generation. We did not hate each other like the current generation of Democrats do. We grew up with civility and we put country first above our disagreements. That has changed now. So I'm not ashamed of having voted both sides of the aisle over the years and I'm not ashamed of supporting some of the policies of the Republicans and some of the Democrats. It is why I am Unaffiliated. I don't agree with everything on either side of the aisle.

But when it comes to the economy and money, I am a fiscal and monetary conservative. Because that is the only thing that is sustainable and what works in the long term. Everything else used to be called irresponsibility when I was growing up. And btw, Republicans have not screwed me. Neither have any Democrat bosses I've worked for. I've been treated very well, mostly because I kicked ass, worked hard, and did a great job most of my life. Now I'm retired, happily.

As to speaking a different tune if I lived in New York, well, I have a few houses, one of which is in a population dense, very Democrat city in a very Democrat state, which I will not name here. I am not there now. I'm riding this out in my rural house in a Republican city and state, where the hospitals are good (and empty) and my social distancing amounts to several miles all around me. And yes, I'm stocked up on everything I need. So I do have the luxury of thinking about things calmly and rationally. I also understand what a privilege that is, which is why I am fighting with my voice for the 22 million unemployed who neither you nor anyone else is thinking of right now.

So was a shutdown the right thing for NY or the rest of this country? I say no. Taiwan is another country that is doing just fine and they shut nothing down. It's easy to get emotional and make bad decisions. That is what has happened. Mass hysteria prevailed over common sense and math.
