Mindmeld, hindsight is 20/20. Taiwan and Korea had the benefit of hindsight in preparing their pandemic response, because they've been through it before.

The worst we've been through in modern times is maybe the H1N1 pandemic of 2009 and the Ebola scare of 2014.

In any case, the real lesson here is to be proactive and keep a close eye on any potential pandemic that comes by. That means treating each and every one like it's a BFD so that the correct countermeasures can be taken.

What I see from the alt-right more often than not are people who want to do the exact opposite and deny that COVID-19 really is a BFD. That's how you end up like Italy, Spain, the U.K., and New York.

In comparison, I believe we in California did pretty well in dealing with COVID-19. Of course, we still had to endure a lockdown, but given that we were the original epicenter, I believe the results speak for themselves.

Hopefully in the future, we'll be much better equipped to handle this, even to the point where we won't have to issue lockdowns.
