When I was a kid, downtown New Westminster had a Zellers, a Woolworth's, a Eaton's, a Kreskies, a 5 and dime and a Army and Navy store, plus dress shops , shoe stores, a furniture store and two movie theaters, uptown had Woodward's, some small stores and one movie theater, all gone now except the Army and Navy store, there were no Malls, if you wanted to shop in the lower mainland, Vancouver and New Westminster were the only places you could go.
