Overall, the CDC estimates that 12,000 and 61,000 US deaths annually since 2010 can be blamed on the flu. Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the flu kills 290,000 to 650,000 people per year globally. Yes, and in 1968 100,000 US deaths and 1,000,000 worldwide. But not all at once, causing more deaths due to overburdening the hospital system. Which is the whole point of this trillion dollar exercise - which for a trillion dollars, you'd think could have been done somewhat differently instead of saying hide in your house, especially in less populated areas...
