I worked there for a month and managed to get fired. Years later I found out that I got fired for being insubordinate and telling my boss that he was being silly and inefficient - he got fired because I was right. I found this out years later while working as a bouncer. Got a customer there who said "I know you from somewhere" About an hour later he figures it out and his friend is on the floor laughing. His friend filled me in that for years his buddy had been complaining about the arsehole who got him fired from Woodwards (I had no clue and thought I was the only one) My boss had filed some sort of complaint or something and the end result was I was fired for telling my boss to "fuck off" (I may have but it is unlikely) and he was fired because he was shouting at me quite often and was told that "what I was doing was more efficient and helpful to the company." Poor guy thought that he was the only one fired, and I think we both ended up admitting we could have done some stuff better - was too long ago and the details are long gone now.

I learned from that experience that it paid for me to go to the top when I had an issue. I did this at Evergreen Press. I quit and the day I was leaving was taken upstairs for an interview on why I was leaving - got offered to work elsewhere for better pay but I turned them down - they asked me three times what they could do to keep me on, but being young and dumb ( maybe smart) I was going no matter what. I got a bonus on my last check.
What I learned there was some companies have brass at the top who do keep an eye on their workers and will do the best to groom some folks to work their way up in a company ( it was not the place for me) but they knew pretty much every thing I had done while working there for 3 months. They were interested in my reaction when their printing press caught fire - everyone ran around firing off fire extinguishers and water at this machine while the roll of paper spread flames all through the machine and I sat down put my feet up opened my lunch and watched the show. I thought I was in trouble but once the interview started the questions were striking. One of which was something to the effect of "what could we do better and what do you see wrong here" I was just a dumb kid (or felt that way) but that time in their office left an impression on me.

out to pound a few more nails...... there is a 1/2 a beer out there calling me:)
