Ramsey and Qdog- I am thinking more about long term, even though we are all dead in the long term. One thing that Gilder has been saying is that the information structure of the future is the Dumb System. He has this whole thesis about how the really wide bandwidth infrastructure of the future of Telcom will be like CDMA - the data just flows through a big pipe and gets assembled at the end. This is the IP (Internet Protocol) for used for telephony and data. He thinks that it there are certain providers (Qwest) that have identified this and others that haven't (most RBOCS). The implication is that investment decisisions and equipment decisions will change accordingly.

I am wondering whether the collapse in a lot of the big telcom switch companies could have any relation to RBOCs and service providers sitting on the fence while they figure out the switching technology of the future.

Qdog - any truth to this or is this too far into the future to be worth discussing? Bark once for yes and twice for no. Tom
