First thing I'd do if I were her is spend whatever it takes to (quietly) get an antibody test. If that shows she did indeed have the virus, that's like holding a royal flush in five card draw. Time to go all in to call the other side's obvious bluff.

Somewhat related, the moment I read of the first cases in the US, I loaded up on my normal foodstuffs, e.g. frozen vegetables, eggs, canned tomatoes, as well as high calorie stuff just in case (pasta, rice, flour). On our town Facebook group, I posted a poll to gauge sentiment for possibly shutting down the schools for a bit, from 0 (hoax) to 5 ("should have been done yesterday"). The initial responses had a mean of "1", then I got banned for a week for I suppose even bringing this up. To reiterate, I was just curious about sentiment, not advocating anything. I guess I must have been perceived as unnecessarily scaring people.

Anyhow, two days later we had our first reported case (the infamous party that became a headline in the NY Times and made national news)-- and, boom, just like that, everyone was sent home for looks like the rest of the school year. And then all hell broke loose in the stores. People began posting about their multi-thousand dollar shopping trips. We went from "la la la" to "holy hell we're all gonna die" really quick. Don't get me wrong, that's not criticism nor blame, just me trying to show the contrast. And we are talking hours here, not days. Despite my cache of stuff, I ended up driving to another town to buy more before the panic hit there.

So now I guess I need to figure out how to get sued the next time around. :)
