KOAN,

Koan, I agree with 99% of your positions on the issues you mention. However, I simply disagree with IQ being exclusive for Democrats.

Once again you are conflating intelligence as being an exclusivity for Democrats where you cite the number of scientists who Democrats. It is not necessarily their intelligence that turns them into Democrats. My personal doctor of about 20+ years is a ‘died in the wool’ Republican. He once refused to accept Medicare—I still went to him. Saw him last week through a TeleDoc connection. I use him because he is smart, and we can talk about sports during my visits.

Let me give you an example—James Allison, a country boy from the small town of Alice, Texas. Alice Texas holds a special place in my memory. The reason I live in Texas, the catalyst was from Alice. I have given science presentation all over the country—conducting science workshops with thousands of teachers. Am I a scientist—not really! But I darn sure knew how to talk about science. In 1975, being a single fellow, I was the ‘go-to guy’ for making presentations to teachers. The VP for the Southwest Region asked me if I would move temporarily to Texas and make science presentations around the state—I agreed and the first place they sent me was to Alice, Texas. Alice being the first presentation for that year’s textbook adoption, later after the local districts had made their choice for which science textbooks, I asked the local representative to make Alice the first call for finding out what book they had adopted. They had adopted our series. But I digress!

Jim Allison will tell you that having the opportunity to play his harmonica one night in a beer hall with Willie Nelson —was the greatest award he has ever received! The boy loved his leather jackets and motorcycle—basically, Jim Allison was an outcast in Alice, Texas. All he wanted to do was to get away from there. Why was this? Alice is the typical small Texas town—a lot of bigots and small thinkers! What really galled Jim was the fact the school district would not allow any teacher to talk about EVOLUTION. Finally, a teacher who had noted his frustration told him about a special program at the University of Texas—Austin. The teacher suggested he apply for the program and he would help him get into the program. So, James Allison while still in HS made it to Austin and into this program.

Jump ahead to two years ago—other than being a full fledge hippy in the 1960s, playing a harmonica with Willie Nelson, and because he hated the fact that Alice HS wouldn’t teach anything about evolution what could top such accolades that he openly confesses as his best attributes?

To understand what I consider his best contribution to mankind you had to be in Oslo, Norway in 2018. The following is a link about James Allison who still to this day looks like a hippy and if you passed him on the sideway you would not consider him as being a person who should be on the public sidewalk. He has been described as looking like Jerry Garcia or Ben Franklin. Read the story on this link—it’s fairly long so make sure you get to the part from 1981 when he was asked to speak to the Texas legislature on a topic that caused him to want out of Alice, Texas. He was talking about this topic because he knew that your tax dollars and my tax dollars paid for his work for so many years of one step forward and then a step backwards until he figures out the solution. Allison knows that our tax dollars, flowing through NIH grants, kept him going. NIH grants are the single largest entity that funds medical research in our nation. He would never tell you that it was his innate intelligence that made him a Democrat, it was the fact that the Donald Trumps of the world want to keep the masses ill-advised and living off the government. When the Republicans want to cut funding to the NIH then one must consider that in Texas there is not one statewide elected office held by a Democrat—not one! So one might find it stupid for the Texas taxpayers being so willing to have obviously a Republican led state amendment that makes us Texas taxpayers funding the second single entity behind the NIH funding, where we have a slush fund that goes to large and small drug companies. Pure corporate welfare in its finest—harp about socialism and then fund it with our tax dollars.

Koan—Ideology and Intelligence are not the same and should be considered separate humans traits.
