The Greatest Depression: David Rosenberg Calls

“It is a global depression.” Those were the words of economist David Rosenberg when asked by Amanda Lang if what we’re witnessing is the d-word. He pointed to “potentially a 40 per cent plunge in GDP with no recovery in sight” and said he believes this downturn could be 10 times worse that the 2008-09 collapse. His statements make the TSX’s aforementioned rally all the more curious. And Rosenberg’s commentary stands in stark contrast to what Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz told CTV News Chief News Anchor Lisa LaFlamme a couple weeks ago, when he said comparisons to the Great Depression are “misleading” and “inappropriate”.
