Air traffic never really slowed down, you could always reconnect somewhere. In future pandemics immediate shutdown of all international air traffic is a must.

TWY, as I told Mindmeld, I now think the lockdown in NY was next to useless, but I still think the lockdown in CA helped.

That's because NY likely passed the "point of no return" maybe a full week or two before the actual lockdown happened. Based on the number of asymptomatic cases that are likely out there, it's probable that the coronavirus already made its way into the population of New York well before Cuomo even thought about shutting down the state.

However, like I told Mindmeld, saying that the NY lockdown was "useless" is now just an academic exercise. The state is still in a state of emergency, hospitals and workers are still working overtime to deal with patients exhibiting severe cases (no, it's NOT "jusT likE thE flU"), and many vital resources like masks and testing kits are in short supply.

There is no reason to lift the lockdown now just because in hindsight we might conclude that it didn't help flatten the curve. New York is still in the middle of the curve.
