When we'd walk together or run errands together, he'd always stop to talk to people he didn't know. They could be the clerk at the store or the secretary at doctor's office or anyone really. They always smiled and laughed when my dad was around. Sometimes people would say racist things to my dad because he had a thick Cuban accent and looked hispanic, but he always ignored that and pretended like it didn't happen. He was like a duck where the water would run right off him, leaving him dry. He was almost always upbeat and never carried a chip on his shoulder or a monkey on his back. He loved people and people loved him. The way he dealt with people was his greatest strength, but also one of his greatest weaknesses when it came to running businesses. He tried many businesses and all but one failed. The reason was that he didn't have the killer instinct. I remember he used to own apartments in a predominantly black and hispanic neighborhood. He fixed up those apartments and bought all new appliances and ceiling fans, when ceiling fans were a new and big deal. He wanted poor people to feel good about the place they lived. He was very friendly with all the people and I'd walk around with him to visit all the friends in the apartments there. But as much as the people loved my father, they'd steal from him. One day, we visited a man who my dad would joke around with a lot. The man said his refrigerator was broken, so my dad sent around a guy to fix it, but the guy said we needed to buy a new one. So my dad bought a new one and had it delivered. A few days later, my dad and I walked over to the man's apartment to see if he was happy and caught him in the act of taking the fridge out of the apartment in a dolly. My dad asked what happened and the guy said it was broken and he was taking it to the dump. So my dad asked him to put it back and he'd get it fixed. The guy put it back and my dad plugged it in and it worked just fine. My dad just shook his head and we walked back home. The next day that fridge was gone and my dad didn't ask where it went to. I asked my dad why didn't he call the police and he said that man needed the money more than we did. I got mad, because I felt that guy took advantage of my dad and that the man was a loser and a thief, but my dad got mad at me and told me, "Son, we're no better than anyone else. All we can do is try to help. Some people want the help and some don't." Later that year, my dad couldn't afford to keep owning those apartments anymore, so he had to sell. This is a true story and the lesson was that he never thought he was better than anyone else and I know he's a good man, because of how he treated others that society would have said were beneath him. When Hillary was in power, there were many stories of how she treated the people that were there to serve her. For example, she treated her Secret Service agents like trash. She was known to yell at people and browbeat her staff. When she called 50% of Americans "Deplorables", she was showing her true colors. I don't think she would have made a good President, because I don't think she really likes people or that they are worth her time to think too deeply about them. All she was ever interested in was power and her so-called destiny to be crowned. In addition, she didn't have that many successes in her very long career, but she had quite a few abysmal failures. Bottom line is that the Democrats have far better candidates and far better people than Hillary or Biden. You guys should really look inward and start to pick a better quality of person to lead the party. I think the Democrats are in a big time rut. Going back to the old folks homes to dust off folks like Biden and Hillary are just plain bad ideas that will not win the Democrats the Presidency. That's not partisanship, it's just the cold hard truth.
