BIG DATA and Covid-19.

Big data is a field that treats ways to analyze, systematically extract information from, or otherwise deal with data sets that are too large or complex to be dealt with by traditional data-processing application software.

Data was supposed to be the new oil.

Covid-19 pandemic provided the chance of life time for Big Data to shine but Big Data showed nothing.

Governments eager to listen to anyone which credibility to direct thier actions would have listening to the Big Data whizz kids.

But what did governments have?
The Imperial College of London guy's projections which proved totally wrong.

Bill Gates African warning. He said that, if left unchecked in a region of crowded slums and flimsy health systems, the disease could claim a horrifying 10m African lives. No, it did not happen.

We would expect some Big Data whizz kid coming out with the Body Mass Index of a 65-year old African-American who partied in the Lousiana's New Orleans Mardi Gras and his chances of being infected with Covid-19 or die of Covid-19. Well, I overestimated Big Data.

Someone could massage the available data and come out with a study where latitude, temperature and persons per household could tell the chances of someone being infected with Covid-19, that could be applied to a wider population.

And another data jockey would make a projections as humidity and temperature increase as Spring advanced and foresee a drop or the stability of the Covid-19 cases.

We did not get anything not even resembling that!
The only big data can only show a place in my web pages where I can buy blue jeans based on my surfing patterns.
