Repurposing existing drug molecules is highly effective, and some guy on Fox was suggesting he had some success with it, Trump saw it, and immediately latched onto it. He clearly didn't understand the rigorous process a formal determination goes through, but it is fine for him to say he wants to get behind if and see if it can be used to some efficacy. We will ultimately find out whether or not it is useful. We are not there at this time. I, for one, hope it is determined the drug is useful in some context against Wuhan Virus. I'm sure for you, it would be an unhappy day for Trump to have something else to brag about. Between you and Maher, I just don't know which is worse.
