KOAN,
I don't wish to rekindle our previous discussion about which political party has the smartest people, but I did find this latest article from the Atlantic magazine very revealing and a great historical reminder..."It's George Wallace's World Now"

theatlantic.com

Wallace was born and raised about 25 miles from my hometown--his Uncle was a prominent business man in my hometown. When I went off to college, his uncle called him up and told him I needed a job. I was called to the President's office and told the Governor wanted him to find me a campus job. He did! So George Wallace helped me pay for my college degree--not proud of this distinction now---but it sure made it great when I was struggling to find money to pay my tuition and room/board. The good news about Wallace--he recanted later in life the harsh and racial animosity he had shown in his rise to power.

Looking back today and thinking about Trump---one might forget that Wallace got nearly 15% of the popular national vote during one of his campaigns for the presidency. The fact that a southern racist in the 1960's actually won the Michigan popular vote--what a harbinger for 2016 and Trump.

I think the article gives each of us support on our respective intelligence divide, but I truly believe that if Wallace had the TV exposure that Trump had and has---he could have been the Donald Trump winner in the 1960's---same MO --masters of exciting the masses with code words and outrage. Plus, in comparing George Wallace to Trump and their intelligence--- George Wallace smart and a great public speaker. He just happened to be a racist bigot when he ran for president.
