"A Vietnam vet friend of mine maintains that he had a few missions that crossed the border into Thailand too"

My cousin was an AF Special Forces medic stationed in Thailand. He went into every country in the region except Vietnam, including 3 days in China. I'm not sure if he was in North Vietnam.

My 1st cousin flew 142 missions in a Phantom jet--he flew several missions with Cambodia targets. On one mission he came under heavy ground to air fire that he wasn't flying in a straight path to his intended target. When he finally made it to his intended target and dropped his payload--he discovered he didn't have enough fuel for making it back to his base in Viet Nam. So he diverted to Thailand where we had a base of operations. Amazing thing--while engaged in a war they had PXs for the soldiers spending their money. While waiting to be refueled for his return trip --he bought his wife a watch in the PX. If I remember--it was a Rolex!

As I mentioned--there was no Viet Nam War--we had a Southeast Asia war!
