Picked this up from Wall Street Journal Interactive:

Burr-Brown, Paradyne Combine
For High-Speed Net Access Service
Dow Jones Newswires

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Burr-Brown Corp., with Paradyne Corp., designed and developed a product giving consumers high-speed Internet access over regular copper wire telephone lines and in-house wiring.

In a press release Monday, Burr-Brown the system, which includes a Burr-Brown analog signal processor integrated circuit, operates with existing telephone lines and is no more expensive than an analog modem, yet operates at speeds more than ten times faster.

The company said the Hotwire MVL (Multiple Virtual Line) also eliminates the need for service providers to send trucks and personnel to each home or office to install phone line splitters, rewire the house, or condition the phone line.

The system turns a single telephone line into multiple virtual lines and provides simultaneous voice and data transmission, allowing a consumer's telephones and computers to share the same line at the same time.

The system's transceiver core is made up of two chips: a digital signal processor provided by Paradyne and a system level analog signal processor supplied by Burr-Brown. The single Burr-Brown chip replaces more than 18 integrated circuits and dozens of passive components.

Paradyne, a privately held company based in Largo, Fla., develops and provides products and technologies that facilitate high-speed network access.

Burr-Brown develops, makes and sells precision linear, data conversion and mixed signal integrated circuits.
