I imagine he thought it would make him look in charge. Basec on Dilbert cartoons, insecure managers will randomly assign their group with ill-thought out "ideas" because it makes them look like they are in charge. And everyone there knows it is a total waste of time.

This is consistent with my own experience.

You know, I almost wrote that to him. And then I thought, "Why waste my time?"

But one of the reasons most presidents are circumspect and, well, presidential, is because the media WILL sometimes exaggerate things- just as the public will. That is why we need people in charge who are careful and not idiotic- Trump, unfortunately, never grew into the role of president. He's still the same charlatan who talked about being rapey with women and grabbing their pussies, and played the role of an "executive" on TV- while really being nothing more than a TV media whore/clown. And he's still a media whore/clown- which doesn't work very well when someone is delivering very important information about serious things- like a pandemic.

The public (not all, but perhaps enough) is finally realizing the extreme limitations of this "style" of government (or lack of government.) I-node's sadness and pouting about the media is actually just more evidence for how terrible this president is. Obama never made the media go off on strange tangents that made Obama sound crazy- because Obama parsed his words, was a force for calm and never, ever went off on bizarre speculations that sounded like some crazy guy on a street corner rather than the president of the US. No doubt a difference between the two men lost on the node, but I think it's becoming obvious to a lot of other people in the US.
