With DVDs coming, multimedia software are going to beef up audio and video from the current hissy, stamp sized pixelated stuff to high resolution, full screen MPEG, AC3 surround sound (some games are already being released with surround sound). Software drivers running on fast PII's will eliminate the need for expensive hardware MPEG/AC3 cards and are easier to upgrade and maintain. Good justification for buying high end CPUs!
