Tenchu's Thoughts: A Tale of Two Memes

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

First of all, a disclaimer: I have been one of the biggest advocates for the early lockdown. I believe COVID-19 is a Big Fsckin' Deal, and I think government has to actively and aggressively deal with it in order to help minimize deaths and not overburden our health care system.

Now having said that, here are two memes to look at.

Ain't that the truth? Conservatives know what makes the world go round. Conservatives know that food doesn't grow on its own, that the supply chain doesn't maintain itself, that goods don't manufacture themselves, business networking over Zoom is limited, etc.

Conservatives also know that people don't like cutting their own hair, that YouTube videos are poor substitutes for actual trips to touristy areas, that sports can't stay cancelled forever, and that people still like to socialize at bars, clubs, and other gatherings.

With that, I now present to you the liberal meme:

Go figure. Those oh-so-backwards science-denying "red states" are reopening because they want to FORCE you off unemployment.

Read that again.

Liberals think your state of unemployment is natural and a given. Liberals want you to think that staying unemployed and on unemployment benefits is your God-given right.

Hence when the unemployment checks stop, to them that means government is FORCING you off of unemployment.

Can you believe this shit? You receiving unemployment checks is NOT normal. It is NOT supposed to be the natural state of things.

YOU are responsible for your own survival and your own well-being. If you have to be FORCED off of government assistance, chances are you are a deadbeat and a permanent leech on the system.

I've never been a fan of Orange Man. He says stupid things. But if you think it's oh-so-bad to "force" someone off of unemployment, then you are 10X dumber than he is.

I don't think I'll ever tire of posting this meme, by the way ...

Jared Kushner's volunteer group charged with securing personal protective equipment (PPE) for hospitals nationwide reportedly prioritized inquiries from Fox News hosts Jeanine Pirro and Brian Kilmeade, according to the Washington Post.Volunteers were told to fast-track any PPE queries from "VIPs" and conservative media personalities sympathetic to President Trump, according to a complaint filed by one of the volunteers.Kilmeade passed on a lead to the administration on getting PPE "in an effort to be helpful," while Pirro kept vying for a specific New York hospital to get a "large quantity of masks," according to two sources familiar with the outreach who spoke to The Post. The complaint was filed last month to the House Oversight Committee.
