Mindmeld,
There is a massive new divide between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats love the lifestyle of getting free money to sit on their asses and Republicans want to get back to work to earn a living, in part because it is the people who work hard who are having to subsidize all the lazy Democrats who love their UBI.
Yes, but there's also a big difference in the way the coronavirus is affecting America:

- COVID-19 is affecting urban areas more than rural. That's just the nature of densely populated areas. And of course, urban areas tend to vote Democrat while rural areas tend to vote Republican. (The urban vs. rural divide has existed since the founding of America, by the way.)

- Because of this, people in states where COVID-19 is more widespread are going to fear the virus more than people in other states. As a result, they will be more receptive to lockdowns and government interventionism.

- When you point out that people who work hard subsidize Democrats, the Democrats will be quick to point out how the "blue states" pay more federal taxes than they receive in federal benefits, vs. those "hicks in backwards red states." Of course, the "blue states" are home to the richest people and the poorest people in America. Part of that is by design because of generous welfare benefits by the "blue states," which of course they can afford thanks to their rich liberal elitists.

- Finally, it's ironic that the "check your privilege" crowd is also the "just stay home" crowd, because just being able to stay home on unemployment benefits is quite a privilege in itself. (See my last Tenchu's Thoughts.)

Republicans love getting free money and sitting on their ass too.

Loads of Trumpers are on disability which is why they could go to rallies. Lots of farmers got put on welfare to make up for the foreign markets Trump's trade wars killed. Look at who the Coronavirus aid is going to ... big corporations led by Trump people.

Trump's ally, David Pecker of the Natl Enquirer, is asking for a federal bailout. The cruise lines which don't employ American workers got a bailout because their owners are Trump cronies.

If Trumpers were really the responsible gogetters you think they are, they wouldn't be backing President "I don't accept any responsibility at all."
