My question related to whether Barr would tolerate such direction if it were inappropriate. Of course I believe the President can direct the AG, but within the confines of the law.

It is the responsibility of the AG to advise the president about what isn’t acceptable, and to resign if directed to behave inappropriately. That, of course, depends on having conservative values to avoid fundraiser appointments like Holder who are willing to break the law to accommodate the president. It is on the AG to establish and make clear his boundaries as Barr has done.

You seem to suggest that respecting the executive authority of the president is somehow contrary to the role of the AG. That, of course, is false.

It is a moot point without some evidence of a time where the Executive caused the AG to behave inappropriately. There is no such incident.
