Canada: Man who mocked Islam and Muslims is fired from his job and removed from School Board post

MAY 11, 2020 4:00 PM

BY ROBERT SPENCER

Ravi Hooda’s remarks were no doubt tactless, and many who are not Muslims will find them offensive. He did not, however, call for any violence, as far as this report goes. He merely criticized Sharia and called Muslims some derisory names. If he had mocked Christianity and Christians, would he have been fired from his job and removed from his School Board post? Is it required now in Canada that one must have a positive view of Islam in order to hold a job? Apparently it is.

“After Arab countries, now Canada punishes Indian origin man for Islamophobia; terminated from job and removed from school body,” Janta Ka Reporter, May 6, 2020:

Days after several Indian expats were removed from their jobs in the Arab countries for displaying Islamophobia using their social media pages, Canada has cracked the whip on an Islamophobe by removing him from a school body and terminating his contract with one of the leading real estate companies in the North American country. Ravi Hooda has now made his Twitter account private after politicians and civil society members in Canada reacted with outrage on his brazen Islamophobia.

…Brampton too followed suit and decided to allow Muslims in its region to use loudspeakers for the sunset Azaan. This did not go down well with a local Islamophobe, identified as Ravi Hooda, who launched a tirade mocking Muslims and their faith. He wrote, “What’s next? Separate lanes for camel & goat riders, allowing slaughter of animals at home in the name of sacrifice, bylaw requiring all women to cover themselves from head to toe in tents to appease the piece fools for votes.”

Hooda’s tweet sent shockwaves across Canada, which is globally renowned for its liberal values. Peel District School Board in Brampton announced that it had removed Hooda as ‘School Council Chair’ and investigation was underway against him. Its tweet read, “The Principal has begun an investigation. The individual is being removed from their role as School Council Chair and won’t be able to participate on council in any other capacity. Islamophobia is not acceptable and a clear violation of our Safe and Accepting Schools Policy.”

ReMax Canada, which is one of Canada’s top real estate marketing websites, too informed that it had terminated Hooda’s contract. It tweeted, “We do not share nor support the views of Mr. Hooda. We can confirm he has been terminated and is no longer affiliated with RE/MAX. Multiculturalism & diversity are some of the best qualities in our communities, and we are committed to upholding these values in all that we do.”

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown too said that Islamophobia will not be tolerated in Canada. He wrote, “Our noise by law originally passed in 1984 only included an exemption for Church bells. It will now include all faiths within the permitted hours & decibel levels. The Muslim community can proceed with the sunset azan because it’s 2020 & we treat all faiths equally. #Ramadan.”

Curiously, Hooda is also a registered certified immigration consultant. It remains to be soon if the government will consider revoking his licence in light of his Islamophobic views.

Ramadan in Algeria: Muslims vandalize statue of Virgin Mary at church in Oran

May 19, 2020 8:00 AM BY ROBERT SPENCER

Besides removing supposed temptations to idolatry, Islamic jihadists want to destroy the artifacts of non-Muslim civilizations because doing so testifies to the truth of Islam, as the Qur’an suggests that the destroyed remnants of ancient non-Muslim civilizations are a sign of Allah’s punishment of those who rejected his truth:

Many were the Ways of Life that have passed away before you: travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who rejected Truth. (Qur’an 3:137)

This is one of the foundations of the Islamic idea that pre-Islamic civilizations, and non-Islamic civilizations, are all jahiliyya — the society of unbelievers, which is worthless. Obviously this cuts against the idea of tourism of ancient sites and non-Muslim religious installations. V. S. Naipaul encountered this attitude in his travels through Muslim countries. For many Muslims, he observed in Among the Believers, “The time before Islam is a time of blackness: that is part of Muslim theology. History has to serve theology.” Naipaul recounted that some Pakistani Muslims, far from valuing the nation’s renowned archaeological site at Mohenjo Daro, saw its ruins as a teaching opportunity for Islam, recommending that Qur’an 3:137 be posted there as a teaching tool.

“Ramadan in Algeria: Statue of the Virgin Mary vandalized in Oran,” translated from “Algérie : La statue de la vierge Marie vandalisée à Oran,” ObservAlgerie, May 17, 2020 (thanks to E.):

The statue of the Virgin Mary of the Santa Cruz Christian Church in Oran in western Algeria has been the target of vandalism. The statue in the grotto of Our Lady of Santa Cruz was overturned with its stone base, and was damaged. It was an attempted robbery that went wrong, according to what was reported on Saturday, May 16, by the Arabic-language newspaper El Khabar.

According to the same source, the public prosecutor presiding over the court of Oran ordered the placement under arrest warrant of four (4) church guards. According to the first elements of the investigation, they are behind this criminal act.

Indeed, the chapel of Santa Cruz built of stones extracted from the mountain of Murdjadjo where it is perched, was the subject of an attempted theft earlier this month. Four looters allegedly destroyed the statue of the Virgin Mary by attempting to steal it. They even destroyed other holy monuments in their path.

During the investigations, suspicion turned against the four men responsible for guarding the place. The investigators relied on the respondents’ statements. Indeed, the four guards of the place of worship gave totally contradictory versions at the time of the depositions.

Officials in the municipality of Oran said that these individuals, who were supposed to guard the chapel of Santa Cruz, ransacked the place of worship and destroyed the statue of the Virgin Mary by trying to steal it in order to sell it on the black market, as an object of antiquity.

The situation of Christians in Algeria is worrisome

In addition, the Christian community in Algeria has for several years denounced the intimidation to which the faithful are subject. Many Christians have denounced the series of closings of churches around the nation. Several evangelical associations and organizations have called for an end to “the increasing pressure and intimidation from the Algerian government”….
