The inventor/creator of Cobol was on CNBC a few days ago. Yes, he's still alive and I think they said 79 years old, but is still sharp.
He has created a way to fix the year 2000 bug, which he claims he has
been warning people about since 1969! He has a different approach than current fixes. Basically he sits some software on top of the databases and this will convert all the old data to be Y2K compliant before being processed by the actual application programs. That way all the databases don't have to be changed. I may not be totally accurate, but that was my understanding.
