I am not that familiar with re-orgs at other big tech companies, but where I work we seem to re-org every year. There is always some "new" idea on how best to organize a tech company and tech companies seem to like to keep up with the new ideas. After 25+ years in the industry instead of "new" ideas I instead mostly recognize old ideas coming back into fashion again and being marketed as new.

But yes a rush of reorgs makes sense if everyone works from home. The best org structure for work from home is most likely not the same as the best org structure for work in the office.

And there is definitely going to be ample opportunities and reasons available to cover up the unpleasant task of culling unwanted workers.

Because I have been not employed and have lived in the gig economy since September 1993 I can see where the productivity has gone.

Amazing I left my last corporate job September 1993, Never looked back never worked for anybody since.

I believe whatever productivity is gained by technology is lost by too many people wasting their extra time on social media, youtube ect looking at the wrong things not expanding their horizons or getting more educated or widening their skill set..
