Lefty discovers his side is fascist

Friday, May 15, 2020

Matt Taibbi, the heir to the Hunter S. Thompson throne at Rolling Stone, discovered something amid the pandemic panic. He is horrified to learn that lefties are a bunch of fascists.

Given that their heroes are Stalin, Mao, and Castro, what did he think they were? Hippies?

And of course, Charles Manson begat the hippies.

But Taibbi blames President Donald John Trump.

Taibbi wrote, "Democrats Have Abandoned Civil Liberties. The Blue Party’s Trump-era Embrace of Authoritarianism Isn’t Just Wrong, It’s a Fatal Political Mistake."

Well, I sure hope fascism proves fatal.

He wrote, "Emmet G. Sullivan, the judge in the case of former Trump National Security Adviser General Michael Flynn, is refusing to let William Barr’s Justice Department drop the charge. He’s even thinking of adding more, appointing a retired judge to ask 'whether the Court should issue an Order to Show Cause why Mr. Flynn should not be held in criminal contempt for perjury.'"

The allegation of perjury stems from General Flynn pleading a guilty plea.

The judge would send an innocent man to prison for pleading guilty.

Taibbi went on to say, "Pundits are cheering. A trio of former law enforcement and judicial officials saluted Sullivan in the Washington Post, chirping, 'The Flynn case isn’t over until a judge says it’s over.' Yuppie icon Jeffrey Toobin of CNN and the New Yorker, one of the #Resistance crowd’s favored legal authorities, described Sullivan’s appointment of Judge John Gleeson as brilliant. MSNBC legal analyst Glenn Kirschner said Americans owe Sullivan a debt of gratitude.

"One had to search far and wide to find a non-conservative legal analyst willing to say the obvious, i.e. that Sullivan’s decision was the kind of thing one would expect from a judge in Belarus. George Washington University professor Jonathan Turley was one of the few willing to say Sullivan’s move could 'could create a threat of a judicial charge even when prosecutors agree with defendants.'"

A piece in 2018 by Michael Henry explained what the judge is doing.

Henry wrote, "Lavrentiy Beria, the most ruthless and longest-serving secret police chief in Joseph Stalin’s reign of terror in Russia and Eastern Europe, bragged that he could prove criminal conduct on anyone, even the innocent.

"'Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime' was Beria’s infamous boast. He served as deputy premier from 1941 until Stalin’s death in 1953, supervising the expansion of the gulags and other secret detention facilities for political prisoners. He became part of a post-Stalin, short-lived ruling troika until he was executed for treason after Nikita Khrushchev’s coup d’etat in 1953."

Having been shown the man, the judge searches for the crime.

This has been the state of liberalism and the witch hunts of Washington in the the attempt to stage a coup d'etat against President Trump.

Taibbi is beginning to see what conservatives saw.

And he does them one better. Russiagate (which Taibbi never believed) paired with covid-19 equals a disaster for the Constitution. He seems to think the voting public will punish Democrats for this.

His connection was brilliant.

He wrote, "Democrats clearly believe constituents will forgive them for abandoning constitutional principles, so long as the targets of official inquiry are figures like Flynn or Paul Manafort or Trump himself. In the process, they’ve raised a generation of followers whose contempt for civil liberties is now genuine-to-permanent. Blue-staters have gone from dismissing constitutional concerns as Trumpian ruse to sneering at them, in the manner of French aristocrats, as evidence of proletarian mental defect.

"Nowhere has this been more evident than in the response to the covid-19 crisis, where the almost mandatory take of pundits is that any protest of lockdown measures is troglodyte death wish. The aftereffects of years of Russiagate/Trump coverage are seen everywhere: press outlets reflexively associate complaints of government overreach with Trump, treason, and racism, and conversely radiate a creepily gleeful tone when describing aggressive emergency measures and the problems some 'dumb' Americans have had accepting them."

Allow me to interject.

Fascist Democrat governors have closed mom-and-pop shops while keeping Walmart open. What a reversal for Democrat opposition to Walmart to protect mom-and-pop shops. The heirs to Sam Walton were smart enough to pay off Democrats, who now are clearing out those mom-and-pop shops for the nation's largest retailer.

Mom-and-pop shops are the backbone of the American middle class. If there is such a thing as a spine-ectomy, that is what is going on.

Taibbi ended his piece, "My family is in quarantine, I worry about a premature return to work, and sure, I laughed at that Shaun of the Dead photo of Ohio protesters protesting state lockdown laws. But I also recognize the crisis is also raising serious civil liberties issues, from prisoners trapped in deadly conditions to profound questions about speech and assembly, the limits to surveillance and snitching, etc. If this disease is going to be in our lives for the foreseeable future, that makes it more urgent that we talk about what these rules will be, not less — yet the party I grew up supporting seems to have lost the ability to do so, and I don’t understand why."

50 years ago, lefties mourned the death of four Ohio protesters.

Now they hope every one of them gets covid-19 and dies.

Taibbi is appalled. We will see if he is disappeared by his employer.
