More on timing devices . . .

According to an April 1997 Oppenheimer report on Datum, a rubidium/GPS timing device (i.e., DATM) will keep a network up and running about 48 hours if GPS fails. A quartz/GPS timing device (i.e., TRMB's product) will keep a network up for 24 hours if the quartz if "highly accurate." I have heard that TRMB is using a good quartz.

FYI, there was no down time in the GPS system last year.
