I do think it is true that many NYC physicians were taking it prophylactically even though not prescribing it for sick patients. Zelenko's real addition to the mix, I believe, is the addition of Zinc. I could be wrong but I don't think anyone else had suggested Zinc prior to him. Whoever came up with it, it was smart and sensible. Zelenko himself is dying of terminal illness and I think his commitment to getting this despite the bullshit he's been put through is laudable.
