John, the restaurant I had in mind was Jasmine though I used to frequent Emerald. Do you have any idea how long the the meeting is scheduled for? Since Maurice and Mike are not coming, the questions should be short. There will not be any discussions on ???pricing plans or playing with 2 sticks in the bath tub.

Mike, I agree with most of what you say about the difference between Mexico and SEA. Though the household savings rate is much higher, many of the traditional frugal countries such as Japan and Korea have been spending money. Going forward, they are going to dip into savings just to survive. The unemployment is real and I think HK is fooling themselves when they expect only a 3% unemployment rate. With the employment base so heavily reliant upon the service industry, the multiplier effect will kill them.

I also understand that IMF is pretty much drained with the rescue packages in place. US supposedly fund 20%. There could be a big battle in congress over new funding. What if all the bail out plans are grossly insufficient for the magnitude of the problems, where is the new funds going to come from? I read a headline that Indonesian corporations has "voluntarily" suspended debt service which I take it to mean that they are going in default. Does it include the national debt? In Thailand, 40,000 workers were demonstrating to urge the continuation of an infrastructure project at the Burma border. Why is it so difficult for CNBC to report some real news about SEA, instead on just interviewing these so call experts on the 80th floor of some building in NY who can't find SEA if you give them a map.

In the mean time, Europe is coming into the limelight as the white knight who is going to support earnings this year. Any volunteer to research the validity of that opinion?

Seriously, I am concerned about how much QCOM spent during superbowl week. Was that factored in the SG&A for this qtr? I estimate the tab to be somewhere in the $3-$5 million range, including the 2 spots. That is like a nickel off the earnings.

<OT> Surfer Mike,

Actually, I hear that the surf is up really big time here right now, with 10-12 foot waves due to a storm off Alaska. Last weekend a woman sitting on the rocks below Sunset Cliffs was washed out to sea by a big wave and drowned. The waves are attracting the "Hellmen" surfers who go for the insanely big waves. I read that there is a bounty being offered for riding the biggest wave on the West Coast this year, and Todos Santos island off Baja is one of the hot spots for people trying for the record.

So, grab your board and head on down, dude!

==John

Re: Japan

Do not underestimate the Japanese's ability to swiftly and efficiently execute a reform plan--once they have reach a concensus. It may take them a decade to reach concensus, but watch out when they do reach one. Right now they may seem like the village idiot of the global economy, but just like they are overestimated in the '80s (by the likes of Thurow & Fallows), they are now underestimated.

Back to QCOM...

Jim Jubak, a writer of Microsoft Investor & Worth magazine put Qualcomm onto his "Jubak's picks" yesterday. His target price is $75. He is, however, like Ramsey--doesn't have much conviction for the next 2 quarters. The guy has some interesting read on tech stocks, but track record is so-so.

Incidentally, if you've bought everything pick that Jubak recommended, you would have ended up w/ 5,000 stocks in your portfolios. The guy throws out stock ideas like Tinkerbell ticks off yellow dusts. Actually I'm kinda worried that he has climbed onto the QCOM dogsled.
