There are apparently people who are so stubborn or so resentful tor so captured hat they cannot bring themselves to act in their own interests. This red/blue cultural dichotomy wrt opening up is understandable up to the point where the reds are eschewing masks. The wearing of masks advances the interests of both those who are cautious about opening up and those who are hell bent on doing it. Even if one thinks that wearing a mask is sissy, if it gives confidence to the sissies and gets them out patronizing businesses, that advances their cause. Of course, that would require reason and self-control rather than just acting out from the gut.
