I've seen this attitude before, especially from companies as successful as peoplesoft. I'm facing the same issue with another company i care about - JDA Software, seems like peoplesoft and SAP think retailing is a natural extension of erp. Unfortunately, the PROSPECT of formidable competition entering a market is almost certainly more threatening than the reality. Once they've got a product and attempt to install a few customers, competing gets easy. The temporary pause caused by the entry of a gorilla into a segment can cause a short term disruption in purchase decisons and make for a difficult quarter in earnings, but ultimately when the specialized company survives the onslaught, the valuation recovers. I think VNTV is better positioned than others in the cis segment becuase of its diversification. Still being the worrier, I worry about psft every day. TD
