I think that China will *try* to time their response for maximum impact on the elections.

Dependence is a two-way street. Take a look around your home and count how many are made in China. From where I stand, the US is more dependent on China than the other way around. So long as this interdependence is symbiotic, both sides win. We can negotiate the balance of the benefits, but it can't be too one-sided.

What I am seeing is that the Trump administration is more interested hurting China and preventing it's rise than in negotiating a better balance within a symbiotic relationship. That is a deal breaker and will have terrible consequences for the US and the world.

BTW, the research note on the semicap cos that I just read says they are not concerned about the new licensing rules and it is not affecting them. I think that they are missing the geopolitical picture. This is something to keep an eye on.
