You Have to Finish January 28, 1998 Well, the year is almost a month old right now and from the sounds I am hearing, there are some DD companies that have joined the race. They are beyond getting "set". The race is on going. The technology prize is enormous and it sounds like progress is being made. Well, I was relating this picture to a friend in Las Vegas earlier today as it reminded me of a memory that relates to more than one of these entrants. I do not frequent the car racing circles, but on one occasion I was at a sports car race where a young driver with a famous racing dad was making his first challenge on the track. My friend that took me to that race held a number of national titles in his "auto class" himself. He went up to this young "want to be driver" and told him he was going to loose. He said "you have the best training money can buy, but you are going to loose here today". You will see a chance to win, you will do something foolish and you will be out of the race. He told the young man to come back to him after the race and he would tell him the first step to winning a race. Well, the young man was running a close second most of the race, then the opportunity, a quick move to go for the win and he was parked out in the grass. After the race the young man came to my friend and said, what did I do wrong? My friend said that the first thing you have to learn is how to finish. You have to make you judgements that keep you in the race first, then get to the finish and the wins will start coming. My advice to the DD process development competitors is; know the pitfalls, be prepared, follow good method, dedicate your heart and "give it your all" to be in the race at the finish. Finish what you started. Only then do you have a chance at being a winner. And if you win, those that supported your effort will finish with you. mike
