Unless they cause cancer, I say better safe than sorry when it comes to the issue of wearing face masks.

BTW, that was a four year old paper posted on an advertising supported non-academic dental trade website featuring the following article on its home page:

CDC Guidance for Dental Settings Echoes ADA Guidance

Two excerpts:

Advise patients to wear a face covering when entering the dental practice.

Advise dental staff members to wear additional personal protective equipment (PPE) as appropriate, such as surgical masks or N95 masks, full face shields or goggles with side shields to ensure an environment that is as safe and healthy as possible for patients and the dental team.

From what I can make out from reading that article, the author is saying that the masks don't filter out everything due to both fit and size of particles, therefore they are useless and shouldn't be used.

Pretty weak argument since no one suggests that masks are perfect. I don't think I have had a dentist since it was published who didn't wear a mask. So I guess he didn't change anyone's practice.

He constructs a straw man and knocks it down. Cool. Good thing its so hot out that I didn't want to go outside anyway. I think he just needed a publication.
